Blue whales are both the largest whales and the largest mammal species to have ever existed on the earth. Their huge sizes mean that they do not have any natural predators in the sea so humans are the reason they are endangered today. Whaling and heavy sea traffic has decreased the whale count by massive numbers. The global population of blue whales is approximately in the 10,000-25,000 range where once there were over 200,000.
