July 1 is National US Postage Stamp Day and American Zoo Day. A postage stamp of a California Condor. I’m a fan of the conservation efforts of many zoos. I picked the California condor because in the early 1980s there were only 23 California condors so the San Diego Zoo and partners developed a plan to carefully help wild condors raise baby birds making sure none of the young imprinted on humans. Today, more than 200 condors live in the wild thanks to the hard work of the zoologists and are on their way to attaining a self-sustaining population.
